01 : What Matters Most?

This is the first in a series of (hopefully) 52 posts related to the book Every Monday Matters. I'd love it if some other people wanted to go through the book with me. Contact me if you're interested.

My name is Pat Hawks, and I’m going to spend the next year, 52 weeks, making every Monday matter. One week at a time. Starting today. What matters most?

Where does all the time go?

The average person spends 100 hours a year just driving to work. But only 80 hours a year on vacation.

The average person spends more than two and a half hours a day watching TV.

You know, it’s so easy to get caught up in stuff and lose track of time.

Alright, have you ever done this? You sit down, you’re gonna’ take a five minute break, you kind of get distracted, all of a sudden you realize the whole day has gone by.

Don’t let life pass you by.

Take control of your time. Make a list of what matters most to you, the things that you really want to make your top priorities.

So what matters most to me? My family. My Faith. My friends, for sure. My job, I got to pay the bills.

Then keep track of how you spend the hours in your week.

40 hours a week at work, 50 hours a week sleeping, 5 hours driving to work. I spend way too much time on the computer. And a lot of the time I just hang out. Time spent praying or meditating… Much less than I should.

Then take a look at your list of daily activities and try to decide what you need to do, and what’s just a waste of your time.

You can’t get back time that you waste!

Take action today.

Don’t waste time!!
